Features of Fly Ash
Fly ash is fine ash collected from coal-fired flue gas. It is the main solid waste discharged from coal-fired power plants. Fly ash is a complex mixture of crystals, glass and a small amount of unburned carbon. Fly ash is gray in the dry state, with little or no hydraulic gelling, fly ash with large water content is grayish black. From the surface tension effect, fly ash mineral composition is divided into crystalline minerals and non-crystal minerals. The main oxide composition of fly ash is SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, FeO, MgO, TiO2, K2O, Na2O, MnO, SO3. Fly ash is mainly used in the cement industry, it is also often used in other industries. But without proper storage, it can be easily affected by external elements and cause environment pollution problems.
The common ways to store fly ash
- Bulk Storage
In the bulk storage of fly ash, we must pay attention to moisture proof and waterproof measures. After the fly ash gets wet, it needs to be agglomerated, which reduces its strength and cannot even be used.
- Bag Storage
Moisture proof is essential in bag storage as well. The bagged fly ash will agglomerate after getting damp, and become unusable. Therefore, the bagged fly ash must be stored in dry places.
Bag storage is not suitable for long term storage of fly ash. Generally the fly ash quality will drop 10%~20% after 3 months of bag storage.
- Silo Storage
The fly ash steel silo is a large-scale storage warehouse for storing fly ash, which is constructed of steel plates as the main material. It is generally divided into two categories: welded silo and spiral steel silo.
The spiral steel silo construction adopts the Lipp double-seaming technology, which is very advanced in the silo construction industry. Welded silo is more traditional compared to the spiral steel silo. They are both widely used for fly ash storage.

The steel silo is very strong, so fly ash can be safely stored in it. The silo has vertical reinforcement ribs on its inner wall, which greatly enhance its strength, give it strong resistance to wind, earthquake and snow.
Great air-tightness
The double-seaming technology makes the steel silo very air-tight and water proof, guarantees the safe storage of fly ash.
Large capacity
The capacity of a steel silo can range from 100tons to 10000tons. Steel silos can also be constructed into group silos for large quantity storage.
Long storage period
Fly ash stored in the silo are isolated from the outside world and are not affected by external factors such as sunlight and humidity, so they can be stored for a longer period of time.
